Juror Point of View

“The theme for this year’s #iseeDC2020 Instagram Photo Contest—ARCHITECTURE/EQUITY/PANDEMIC—was an intensely charged, emotional and profound topic, especially in our nation’s capital … How can you depict all the events of 2020 in one image?

The challenge of weaving form+space through moment+experience+time, engaging metropolitan DC as backdrop subject, offered powerful opportunities. As jurors, our eyes were attracted to compositions that connected color+light+darkness with people+place+culture.

The collection of images was rich and empowered. The results are ten outstanding photographs and, for the first time, a jurors’ favorite and first and second runners-up. Seeing them will make you pause and discover or rethink familiar monuments, places and neighborhoods.

I hope the shared series serves to … alleviate, comfort or bring positive feelings to all of you …”
