A Gardener’s Garden

Moody Graham

Through an iterative and collaborative process, the client and the landscape architect created a place of respite and renewal situated within a larger complex of existing garden rooms on the property.

Merit Award in Residential Design

The clients are two avid gardeners who wished to renew one of their garden rooms: their more formal garden. This garden had ineffective drainage and soil compaction and lacked a sense of order in the layout.

The scope of work addresses the drainage issues while providing opportunities for a wide range of ornamental plantings that create order in the garden and enhanced social gathering space all while complimenting both the house and the other garden rooms.

The garden intends to be an extension of the house, spatially and in character. Order is established through the use of sculpture as a destination, and vertical site elements, exquisitely executed by the construction team, creating layers of structure that express themselves and then disappear during the cycles of the seasons.
