The Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA|DC) serves the Nation's Capital, functioning as both the "local" and "state" component of the AIA for the District of Columbia. We empower our members, profession, and community to advance the value of architecture and design in Washington, DC. The Chapter was intimately involved in the design and planning of Washington and continues to play an active role in city development today.

AIA|DC operates, along with the Washington Architectural Foundation, from the District Architecture Center (DAC) in historic Penn Quarter not far from Pennsylvania Avenue. DAC celebrates the built environment through exhibitions and related programs that engage architects, architectural enthusiasts, allied professionals, students, and the general public.

Our exhibitions spotlight excellence in architecture, design, and urbanism; explore and disseminate inspiring artistic and architectural ideas; and pique curiosities about the man-made world around us. These experiences offer a platform for dialogue on the nature of contemporary design practice, the role of architecture in our communities, and the many ways that design impacts people’s lives.
