Aberdeen Creek

Moody Graham Landscape Architects

Congratulations to Moody Graham Landscape Architects for Aberdeen Creek in Annapolis, Maryland. Jurors said the project feels full and rich, with textured, innovative treatment of the pool and garden.

Merit Award in Residential Design

The landscape architect was asked to create multiple garden spaces for clients who sponsor research into the health benefits of nature in the city.  The design responds with a rich sequence of places for the quiet contemplation of nature.  The development of the garden has been a multi-year project with close collaboration between the clients, gardener, and landscape architect.

The arrival court welcomes residents and visitors.  As part of their educational outreach, the clients host cultural and environmental groups on tours of the garden.

At the front entry, a Japanese temple bell hangs from a bluestone support designed by the landscape architect.

An existing oval pool was stripped of its deck and terrace and the result appears more like a pond in a clearing.  The walk through the river birch grove and the woodland understory has a simple restful clarity.
