Accotink Creek

Campion Hruby

The jurors concluded that, with this beautiful project, the buildings and gardens look like they have existed in the landscape for a long time.

Merit Award in Residential Design

The team designed an 8-acre pastoral estate in Fairfax, VA, rooted in the bucolic English Cotswold tradition, while limiting stormwater runoff with a dry stream and step pools.

Five stone cottages, joined by steel-framed glass hallways, make up the house, gently sited alongside gardens within the heavily-wooded site.

Guests are visually drawn through the house to the swimming pool, which reflects images of the architecture and gardens, adjacent woodland, and the sky above.

Traditional stonework, brick, and patina speak to the value of enduring quality.

The planting scheme and connections from garden to garden complement the house and create moments within the surrounding landscape.
