Dewey Park

Dewey Park illustrates how resilient and equitable design can enhance quality of life through recreation and play. The jury appreciated the intricate design details installed above the storm vault, applauding the mural program as a great, simple solution to bringing vibrancy to the park space.    

Merit Award in Design Built

Jordan Honeyman led a team of sub-consultants in renovating Dewey Park in Veirs Mill, MD to add numerous features, including a multi-age playground surrounded by a trike track as well as a lighted dog park, outdoor gym, and hockey rink all on the rooftop of a storm sewer overflow facility.

Based on an analysis of the existing structure that included Ground Penetrating Radar, the team protected the roof’s structural integrity, strategically locating shade structure supports above existing beams.



The team developed the project’s playground theme during a lively charette with local elementary school students who had very definite ideas about their new play space!



Artist Juan Pineda developed public art murals featuring images from both Maryland and Latin America, engendering community pride while promoting park stewardship.
