The Perch at Capital One Center

ParkerRodriquez / Fine Landscapes, Ltd.

Multiple programmed elements give visitors numerous different opportunities to enjoy the space, while modern technology addresses the unique challenges of the roof deck site. The jurors applauded the detailed and heavily-designed park space, concluding that this “great project” provides “something for everyone.”

Honor Award in Design Built

Considered the crown jewel of a 26-acre mixed use development in Tysons, VA, the Perch at Capital One Center provides a unique green space, much of which rests atop a performing arts and events center.

The site’s amenities include bocce courts, a games plaza, a chalkboard wall, interactive art sculptures, a great lawn, a dog run, an amphitheater, and a biergarten with outdoor firepits and seating.

To meet the performing arts center’s significant structural and programmatic demands, designers use roof trusses over 100 feet in length, while acoustic isolation mats prevent sound transference between the park and the hall.

Native and adapted plantings provide a natural backdrop to the site’s outdoor stage for live performances.
